Kolej Doliny Bobru - trzy tunele, dwie katastrofy i niejeden most

The Bóbr Valley Railway is one of the most beautifully situated railway lines in Poland. The section of the Jelenia Góra-Lwówek Śląski line running along the Bóbr Valley features impressive bridges, viaducts, tunnels, and magnificent views. Today, this railway is numbered 283 and continues through Zebrzydowa to Żagań. But if not for the flood of 1897, the railway likely would never have been built. Why? Considerations for its construction had been made since the 1880s. Some documents even point to 1862 as the first indication for the construction of this line. However, all measurements, proposed route options, and projected traffic indicated the project's unprofitability. The construction of the railway was necessitated by the construction of the largest dam in Lower Silesia – the Pilchowice Dam. Two train disasters occurred on the line, which are discussed in the film. The head-on collision of trains in 1977 during the "flood of the century" near Wleń, and the explosion of a steam locomotive boiler on the line from Dębowy Gaj to Marczów in 1984. Thanks to this, we can now admire this engineering masterpiece, which includes the famous bridge over Lake Pilchowickie, three tunnels, several viaducts, and charming stations that give this line its unique atmosphere. #history #railway #lowerSilesia
