Stanisław "Jersey" Rudowicz is 20 years old today. When the full-scale war in Ukraine began, he was 16 and volunteering to sort humanitarian aid in Poland. Today, he has served in the Ukrainian army, in an artillery division, where he served as a subunit driver. He discusses the journey from humanitarian aid warehouses to the front, why he chose the Ukrainian army over the Polish one, and what the "second line" truly means – where artillery is at work, but where death and drones are a daily occurrence. In our conversation, we return to his first deployment to a combat zone, the first wounded and killed, the paralysis of fear, and how soldiers try to cope with emotions, jokes, and routine. Stanisław speaks openly about war crimes, booby traps, FPV drones, life in the trenches, and in positions where infantry can spend up to six months.
