Once you reach 40,000 meters along the Footpath, S-rank yokai will begin to appear in earnest. Youkai that would normally only appear in a jackpot gacha will appear walking the path or standing in front of you, challenging you to a fight. Defeating them may result in their becoming friends. The chances of befriending an S-rank yokai are low. However, the longer you walk along the Footpath, the greater your chances. That's not all. Walking along the Footpath also offers other benefits. You can receive a variety of items, including food and equipment. As the distance increases, these items become increasingly luxurious. You can get them just by talking to them, so be sure to grab them whenever you see one. There are various ways to receive them. Some people will surprise you before giving them to you. The basic principle of ridges is to extend the distance. When you talk to people you meet on the road, your response will either increase or decrease the distance of the ridge. If you answer incorrectly, the ridge will end before the distance is too short. You need to memorize which answer will extend the distance. Some people will extend the distance just by talking to them, but this type is rare. Most people will require you to choose an answer from a list of options. However, there are traps, so be careful. Some traps will return you to the title screen if you choose the wrong one. Some people, such as the Confused Man, will ask different questions each time you meet them. If you get on the train, you will miss an event along the way that extends your distance. There are various other events along the footpaths. It's impossible to introduce all of them, so you'll just have to run and see for yourself. When running while extending the distance along the footpaths, you may find that you can't see the exit no matter how long you run. In such cases, use the prophet boy walking from the right. If you choose "The exit is almost here" in conversation with this boy, the exit will immediately appear. Using this option will allow you to reach the finish line properly, rather than escaping from the scarecrow. The distance along the endless footpaths will only increase gradually until your record exceeds 20,000 meters. You won't be able to extend it all in one go, so you'll need to try multiple times.
