He explains that a speaker is essentially a reverse dynamic microphone, like an SM57, and that speakers make fantastic kick drum mics. Loudon takes an old speaker from a home theater system and demonstrates how to turn it into a microphone using a soldering iron, an old instrument cable, and a few other tools. Then, he tests the microphone with his interface, showing many different sound effects that can be achieved from the speaker-microphone. This video is from the Berklee Online course Sylvia Massy: Creative Approaches to Recording and Producing Music.
