Repair of a junker Admiral tube radio (timewaster project)
Technically, this one is more suited as parts set; but, I decided to play around with it. The main problem with this set turned out to be silver migration of the 2nd IF transformer; which, I repaired by cutting out the original mica capacitors and replacing them with two 100pf silver mica capacitors. Unfortunately, silver migration of the IF transformers is becoming a big problem on post-WWII tube radios and since new production IF transformers are no longer made, we must learn how to repair our existing ones.
