12 Detroit Cars From The 1950s That Were INSANELY Fast

Before muscle cars existed, Detroit was already building machines that broke world speed records straight off the showroom floor. In 1949, most American cars topped out around 80 mph. By 1958, a stock Chrysler sedan had just set the official world land speed record for passenger cars at Bonneville Salt Flats. What happened in between was one of the most intense horsepower wars in automotive history, and almost nobody talks about it today. These 12 production cars had leather seats, AM radios, and air conditioning. They also ran 130, 140, even 156 miles per hour. This is the decade before the GTO that nobody gave Detroit credit for. #ClassicCars #DetroitMuscle #1950sCars
