Episode 1241 Annie (Doris Speed) is annoyed that Billy (Kenneth Farrington) is paying Hilda (Jean Alexander) 60p an hour to clean the Rovers. Len (Peter Adamson) tells Alf (Bryan Mosley) that he and Rita (Barbara Knox) have separated, hoping Alf will pass on the news to the council. Billy and Ernie (Stephen Hancock) discuss arranging something at the Rovers for Christmas. Ena (Violet Carson) reminds Ernie that he still has to organise a Christmas event at the community centre. Len asks Elsie (Pat Phoenix) if she would be his mayoress if he was elected mayor. She suggests Len sends Ray (Neville Buswell) to Scarborough to make sure he stands the best chance of being elected. Albert (Jack Howarth) gives Norma (Diana Davies) a large pile of ironing to deal with. Ray refuses to go to Scarborough. Ernie suggests holding a disco at the community centre for Christmas, but Ena and Albert are unimpressed. Alf reveals to Len that he is also standing for mayor. At The Capricorn, Rita is concerned when she sees Alan (Alan Browning) drinking heavily.
