Home of My Soul
This is an Americana / Folk song I wrote about living in the Appalachian Mountains. I grew up in the South Carolina Lowcountry and living in the mountains has been a revelation (not that I don't still like the Lowcountry, beach and ocean because I do!). I incorporated some "humming" that is based on Native American tunes as they inhabited these mountains long before our European ancestors. Lyrics Home of My Soul Copyright 2026 Morgan St. James and Windlass Productions Verse 1 Mountains raised by restless earth, Ancient bones of a land reborn, Worn slowly by the hand of time, Stand proud through every storm. Rough and wild beneath the sky, Guarding secrets ages old, The Monacan walked these ridges, And Cherokee stories still unfold. Chorus Ridges and valleys, streams that wind, Twists and turns through heart and mind, Golden sunrise, red sunset glow, Calling me wherever I may go. Winds and rains, silence and dark, Every stone has left its mark, These ancient hills will always be The home of my soul, the heart of me. Verse 2 White-tailed deer move through shadows, Black bear wander forest deep, Coyotes sing beneath the moonlight, While rattlesnakes their vigil keep. Water tumbles over granite, Through hollows carved by countless years, Carrying dreams and fading memories, Joy and sorrow, hopes and fears. Bridge When the world grows loud around me, And the road seems hard to see, I hear the mountain winds still whisper, Like an old friend calling me. In the darkness, in the stillness, Beneath the stars that brightly roll, I find myself among these ridges, And these mountains heal my soul. Final Chorus Ridges and valleys, streams that wind, Twists and turns through heart and mind, Golden sunrise, red sunset glow, Calling me wherever I may go. Winds and rains, silence and dark, Every stone has left its mark, These ancient hills will always be The home of my soul, the heart of me. Outro Mountains thrust up by the earth, Worn by time but standing whole, Forever wild, forever calling, Home of my soul.
