National wrestler Zeynep Yetgil, a physical education teacher at Sultangazi Middle School in Istanbul, is aiming for a gold medal at the European Championships. Thirty-two athletes, led by National Women's Wrestling Team Coach Efrahim Kahraman and coaches Ayhan Sucu, Hakkı Gürel, and Namık Korkmaz, are training at the Kastamonu Olympic Preparation and Camp Training Center. 25-year-old Zeynep Yetgil, who has achieved numerous successes to date, aims to compete in the top 53-kilogram category at the European Championships to be held in Slovakia from April 7-13. National wrestler Zeynep Yetgil said the training camp went very well. The young athlete, who stated that she started wrestling on the advice of her physical education teacher, said, "I started the sport when I was 10 years old. Like my teacher, I became a physical education teacher. I continue my wrestling career and also teach. I've been involved in wrestling for about 15 years." Zeynep, expressing her pride at her first significant achievement, said, "I won my first major medal in 2016, placing third at the World Championships. That's how my wrestling journey began. I then placed second in Europe and third at the World Championships. In 2018, my success continued with the European Junior and Under-23 Championships, and third at the World Under-23 Championships. I've been on the podium numerous times at the European, World, and Islamic Games. I strived to represent my country in the best possible way at the 2024 Paris Olympics." The national wrestler, noting that her preparations for the European Championships were productive, said: "As you know, we have the European Championships coming up. We're having a very good preparation period. Women's wrestling has gained significant momentum since 2016. We prove every year with the trophies and medals we win that success is no coincidence. Our current goal is to represent our country in the senior championships in the best way possible and achieve individual honors there. My goal is to become a champion there and take a victory lap with our flag."
