Penser Joch (Auffahrt Nordrampe) | 4K

The ascent to the Penser Joch from the northern side begins in the town of Sterzing in the upper Eisack valley. From here, the SS 508 climbs steadily toward the Sarntal Alps, gaining almost 1,300 meters of elevation until it reaches the pass summit at 2,211 m. The road is well‑maintained but narrow in sections, with a series of long ramps and sweeping bends that gradually lead out of the valley. As the route gains altitude, the mixed forests of the lower slopes turn into a vivid mosaic of green and yellow foliage, typical of the season. Higher up, the vegetation becomes sparse, and the landscape opens into broad alpine meadows and gentle ridges. Traffic is pretty light today, only few other road users can be seen. Shortly before the summit, the terrain becomes more open, offering expansive views toward the Sarntal and the surrounding peaks. The pass itself forms a broad saddle between the valleys and marks the transition from the northern Eisacktal to the more secluded Sarntal region. Der Anstieg zum Penser Joch über die Nordrampe beginnt in Sterzing im oberen Eisacktal. Von dort führt die SS 508 stetig bergauf in Richtung Sarntaler Alpen und überwindet dabei fast 1.300 Höhenmeter, bis sie den 2.211 m hohen Pass erreicht. Mit zunehmender Höhe verwandeln sich die Mischwälder der unteren Hänge in ein farbenreiches Mosaik aus Grün-, Gelb und Orangetönen, wie es für die Jahreszeit typisch ist. Weiter oben wird die Vegetation spärlicher, und die Landschaft öffnet sich zu breiten Almflächen und sanften Bergrücken. Der Verkehr ist ziemlich dünn an diesem Tag, es sind nur wenige andere Leute unterwegs. Kurz vor der Passhöhe wird das Gelände offener und bietet weite Ausblicke in Richtung Sarntal und auf die umliegenden Gipfel. Das Penser Joch selbst bildet einen breiten Sattel zwischen den Tälern und markiert den Übergang vom nördlichen Eisacktal in das abgeschiedenere Sarntal. #roadtrip #roadster
