San Maximiliano: Mártir a los 21 años - Su PADRE lo ENTREGÓ y APLAUDIÓ su muerte
Saint Maximilian of Tebessa - The First Conscientious Objector in History | Martyr in Africa Discover the REVOLUTIONARY story of Saint Maximilian, the 21-year-old Christian who became the FIRST DOCUMENTED CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTOR IN HISTORY and paid with his life for refusing to bear arms. In this video, you will discover the MOST SHOCKING facts: ✅ The FIRST recorded case of conscientious objection in history ✅ Son of a soldier who REFUSED to be a soldier ✅ The phrase that defied the Empire: "I cannot do evil, I am a Christian" ✅ The COMPLETE DEBATE between him and the Roman proconsul (documented) ✅ BEHEADED at 21 for being a PACIFIST ✅ The father who APPLAUDED his son's execution ✅ Why his story was CONTROVERSIAL for centuries ✅ How he became the patron saint of conscientious objectors Saint Maximilian was born on March 12, 274, in Tebessa, Numidia (present-day Algeria, North Africa). He was the son of Vitor, a veteran of the Roman army who had faithfully served the Empire. When Maximian turned 21, his own father took him to the recruitment office for mandatory military service—an "honor" for Roman families. But what happened there changed history forever. When the proconsul Dio ordered Maximian to accept the military insignia and soldier's uniform, the young man replied with absolute firmness: "I cannot serve as a soldier. I cannot do evil. I am a Christian." This statement sparked a full-blown theological and philosophical debate in the courtroom, fully documented in the trial transcripts—a unique historical treasure. The proconsul argued that there were Christians serving in the imperial armies, but Maximian replied: "They know what is best for them. I am a Christian and I cannot do evil." The recorded dialogue is fascinating: Dio: "Serve and accept the military insignia." Maximilian: "I will not be a soldier. Cut off my head, but I will not be a soldier of this world because I am a soldier of God." Maximilian argued that as a Christian he could not participate in acts of violence, he could not swear by the Roman gods or by the emperor's "genius," and that his true loyalty was to Christ, not to Caesar. The proconsul, frustrated, sentenced him to beheading for desertion and treason. The most disturbing aspect: His father, Victor, did not mourn his son's death. According to records, he thanked God because he considered martyrdom a greater honor than seeing his son alive in the Roman army. Maximilian was executed on March 12, 295, at exactly 21 years and 3 months of age (his precise age is in the court documents). A Christian woman named Pompeia bought his body for a high price and transported it to Carthage, where it was buried near Saint Cyprian—an extremely dangerous act in times of persecution. For centuries, Saint Maximilian was a controversial figure because: He questioned the legitimacy of Christian armies. He was used by pacifist movements. He created tension between Church and State. Today he is officially recognized as the Patron Saint of Conscientious Objectors, and his story inspired millions who opposed wars on grounds of conscience. 🔔 Subscribe for more revolutionary stories of saints 👍 Like if Maximilian's courage inspired you 💬 Comment "Saint Maximilian, pray for peace" 📤 Share with someone who needs to know this story ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 🙏Welcome to the Canonical Channel!🙌 Here, we delve into the inspiring stories of Catholic saints, uncovering fascinating details about their lives and the miracles of faith that transformed the history of Christianity.
