Rondo Royale | Concert Band | Symphonic Band | Gamelan | Percussion

This is a concert work for a large, advanced high school or university-level symphonic band. A modified rondo, the form is A B C B A D A. The work is held together by a five note scale: Bb D Eb F A (Bb), reminiscent of some Balinese gamelan scales. The A section is a traditional fanfare with lots of brass and drums; the B section recalls light fusion music of the mid-70s; section C is a huge, imaginary gamelan; the jazz fusion section returns, followed by section D--a slow, harmonically static, pulsating section that features variations on the fanfare theme and the Balinese scale.
