Porsche 911 GT2 RS - Stuttgart's Road-Legal Racecar
Premium Faraday key pouch to protect your car key from relay theft: https://mobilityinsider.myshopify.com/ Welcome back to the channel and welcome to another mobility insider special! A Porsche 911 is always special, but then there is the turbo. The first Porsche 911 turbo was launched in 1973 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It was the fastest production car in Germany and it immediately became the über-Porsche - a position it held until 1993 when Porsche launched the first 911 GT2 on the 993-series. The GT2 is roughly speaking a lighter and faster version of the 911 turbo. In 2001 the 2nd generation GT2 came based on the less loved 996, the one with the fried egg headlamps. In 2007 the third generation GT2 came based on the 997, and this 4th generation GT2 was shown at Goodwood in June, 2017 and deliveries started shortly after. This is my own Porsche 911 991.2 - 4th generation GT2 RS which I bought new in 2018. I chose the colour miami blue and spec’d the car with the 555 watts 12-speaker Bose sound system and added matching blue parts and not least the Weissach package which saves about 30 kilos compared to the standard GT2 RS. I love the colour, but of course a GT2 RS is about performance. And the performance is out of this world. The GT2 RS set the record at the Nürburgring for production cars in 2018 with an incredible 6m48s047 and an average speed of 184.87 km/h. That makes it the fastest and most powerful 911 in standard spec ever made, albeit in 2021 the Porsche-Manthey-tuned GT2 RS did it in 6m43s300, 4.7 sec faster. I took delivery of my GT2 RS in June, 2018 when it replaced my GT3. Originally Porsche planned to build just 991 units of the GT2 RS but the demand was much higher than expected, and as far as I am informed, Porsche built a total of 1580 GT2 RS from 2017-2019. This version is often referred to as the ”911 Magnum Opus” or ”the ultimate 911”. The 3.8l flat six engine has an output of 700 HP, and a torque of 750 Nm. The top speed is 340 km/h and 0-100 km/h takes just 2.8 sec. 0-200 will take 8.3 sec., and 0-300 km/h 22.1 seconds. It revs up to a relatively low 7200 rpm but the 7 speed electronic, GT-specific auto-transmission ensures fast, spontaneous traction upshifts – and extremely dynamic downshift thrusts. Other special features are the two large intercoolers which supply the engine with cooled charging air, a titanium exhaust system plus a rather mild rear axle steering and the PASM, Porsche’s Active Suspension Management. What else; well, it’s basically hand-built using the 911 turbo body tweaked with the lightest materials available at the time. Carbon parts are used generously and there are 20” Magnesium rims in the front and 21” at the back. The roof is made of magnesium and the side windows of light weight glass, it has a carbon bonnet and this discreet carbon fibre spoiler…. Inside you will find a perfect blend of tech and sportiness. The titanium safety cage steels some space in the rear but hey, this car wasn't built for shopping! The Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, carbon-fiber accents, and bucket racing seats with colour matching seat belts, create a driver-focused atmosphere. It also comes with a 6-point harness-belt but I never use that. The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is very much a Marmite experience. Superfast, supernoisy and superlight. I hope you like the video! Filmed in Switzerland in June & July 2025. Produced by DNTS Productions.
