Transforming Rural Livelihoods: Chhattisgarh High-Impact Mega Watershed Project

Introducing the High Impact Mega Watershed Project, a dynamic collaboration between the Government of Chhattisgarh, Bharat Rural Livelihoods Foundation, and Axis Bank Foundation. This groundbreaking initiative aims to transform the lives of rural citizens by investing in soil and water conservation initiatives. With a focus on sustainable development, the project covers approximately 6.9 Lakh hectares of catchment area in 26 blocks across 12 districts, working under the MGNREGA scheme. Launched on October 5, 2018, this four-year endeavor is designed to uplift 100,000 small and marginal households by enhancing their income through effective watershed management and improved farm productivity. The project places the community at the forefront of planning and implementation activities, ensuring their active involvement. In addition, the project benefits from the support of the Ford Foundation, which has contributed to an essential component focusing on livelihoods, particularly in agriculture, Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP), and livestock value-chain development. Notably, this project is aligned with the NARWA treatment program of the state government. The State Project Management Unit (SPMU) extends its support to the State MGNREGA cell in implementing the NARWA rejuvenation work throughout the state.
