Choosing a Racing Helmet With Loni Unser | Racing Helmet Types

Loni Unser joins us for this Tech Talk to discuss the top racing helmets and what factors to consider when picking one out. First, make sure you know the rating of your sanctioning body, and make sure you pick a helmet that meets or exceeds that rating – but does not go under it. Carbon fiber helmets are more lightweight than fiberglass ones, so for longer races the carbon fiber could be a better option since it won’t contribute as much to fatigue. Open face helmets are another good option to consider if you’re doing track days, driving school, or a rally application if you need to communicate with someone else in the car. Full face helmets are also a great option for additional safety, but make sure you select one with an eye port size that gives you enough room to see through.
