A special report on the 'Kashi Vishwanath Mandir Vistarikaran-Saundarayakaran Yojana' (Kashi Vishwanath Temple Extension and Beautification Plan) whose foundation was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The project includes clearing up several thousand square metres of space around the temple to enable easy access for devotees. Guest houses, restaurants and other amenities for tourists would also be constructed. Ravish Kumar asks if we need such 'modernisation' if the heritage back alleys of one of the oldest cities in the world have to be bulldozed.
