We know that the 1/4 miles times are not as fast as modern cars, but this old school muscle is fun. The day we raced the Cobra Jet Mustang was April 23, 2022, which sadly was the last day Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) was open, The 1968 Cobra Jet Mustang in the video is incredibly rare as only 221 428 Cobra Jet Coupes were built in 1968, and this Mustang is 1 of1. 1968 was the first year of the 428 Cobra Jet motor which was the brain child of Tasca Ford of Rhode Island. The 428 Cobra Jet was Ford's answer to GM's potent 396 and 427 as well as Mopar's 440. The 428 cubic inch Cobra Jet (7.0L) option was conservatively rated at 335 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque; however, dyno tests have revealed that the Cobra Jet motor produced closer to 400 horsepower.
