Allison Janney & Andrew Rannells Interview: Miss You, Love You, Book of Mormon, Ridley Scott & More

Fans don’t have to wait much longer for Ridley Scott’s newest star-studded sci-fi epic, The Dog Stars, but before taking on a post-apocalyptic world opposite Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin, Allison Janney and Andrew Rannells are tackling an arguably bigger feat. The Academy Award and Emmy winner and the two-time Tony Award nominee star in HBO Max’s new drama Miss You, Love You, a nearly extinct “quiet movie” from Oscar-winning writer-director Jim Rash. Dialogue-heavy films like these are a rarity in today’s Hollywood, and the two powerhouses couldn’t be more proud of what they accomplished while filming. While talking to Collider’s Steve Weintraub, Rannells explained that, at its core, Miss You, Love You is about “people processing a lot of grief and anger.” More specifically, Diane Patterson (Janney) is a grieving widow with a sharp tongue, who’s confronted with the unbearable task of planning her husband’s funeral with a complete stranger. Her estranged son has sent his assistant, Jamie (Rannells) to help in his stead, leaving the two to stumble through their personal grief and resentments. Don’t miss our conversation with the stars, where Janney and Rannells discuss mastering 20-page dialogue, why they hate rehearsals, and how they approach big, emotional scenes. They also chat about their favorite films, Rannells’ return to Broadway in Book of Mormon, why Janney says working with Scott on The Dog Stars was “overwhelming,” and Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and more. #hbomax #missyouloveyou #allisonjanney #ridleyscott #andrewrannells For interviews, movie reviews, and more visit https://collider.com FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL   / collider     / collider     / collider
