200 TONS of Lost Cargo Found: 19th Century Steamboat Arabia Sank 1856: Sunken Treasure
The Steamboat Arabia was headed to the Western Frontier laden with 200 Tons of cargo destined for General stores all along the Missouri River. On Sept 5, 1856 the boat hit a tree and sunk. The contents lay undisturbed for 136 years until it was uncovered in the late 1980's. This Museum houses the amazingly preserved artifacts found during the excavation.
