The neighborhood quickly grew as more Chinese immigrants arrived in search of work and opportunities. Chinatown was once a thriving commercial and residential district, but it began to decline in the mid-20th century due to factors such as urban renewal and freeway construction. However, in recent years, Chinatown has experienced a resurgence and is now a popular tourist destination.
