It's an obligation for the CFE, and the truth is, it's laughable when they say, "We won't make agreements anymore; you don't have the right," and the excuses they generally give you. Clause 14 of the membership contract that binds us to the CFE specifies the methods for making agreements. There's a big difference. One difference is that if the CFE's meter failed, then it's a CFE problem. I remind you that the meter isn't our property; it's the property of the CFE, and the CFE, being the owner, is obligated to maintain it. So, in my very personal opinion, they shouldn't even be able to charge you for what the meter stopped reading if it was due to their negligence. Let's take an example. They're telling me they're going to charge me up to three years in advance, which, in the case of failures, is the maximum amount of time they could charge you. Not the usual 10 years. So, if you're going to charge me MXN $30,000, divide it into 36 payments so I can pay. So it's not about whether they want to, nor are they doing you a favor. Even in those cases, they can't cut you off at the time of the inspection. The law also allows them to adjust consumer issues, allowing them to reach an agreement. However, I doubt that such an agreement can be upheld by the CFE in a trial because their law and regulations stipulate that if you owe more than a month, they must cut off your service.
