Memoria Isleña 2025: Tenerife

The CajaCanarias Island Memory project collects living stories that awaken curiosity and a desire to learn and expand our knowledge, not only of evoked experiences but also of understanding the lives of those who came before us. These stories help us discover ourselves and commit to the responsibility of rescuing and disseminating this heritage, which forms part of the pillars of our own family roots. Garachico does not forget its tormented history, its water shortages, and the struggle to survive by working the sea. Water was scarce and meager. A sea that, every so often, turns against the coastal inhabitants and fishermen. Storm surges that have left traces of pain and tragedy that are difficult to forget. These harsh conditions make memory a shield against adversity. The drive to move forward despite life's hardships is expressed through these serene, fresh testimonies, with words of deep roots and popular wisdom.
