Why Am I Suddenly Switching From Mono To Braid ⁉️

Thinking about switching from mono to braid for your carp fishing? In this video, I break down exactly how I fish with braided mainline and why I prefer it over mono for river carping or rocky swims. I’ve been river carping since 2012, and each year, I tweak and refine my setup to handle the unique challenges that flowing water, snags, and rocky riverbeds throw at me. For the past three years, I’ve been running the setup you’ll see in this video — and it’s been absolutely rock solid. It’s landed some incredible carp, stood up to brutal conditions, and most importantly… it’s never failed me. Not once has anything broken that shouldn’t. I always get my gear back — apart from the odd lead or a bent hook — and that’s exactly how I’ve designed it to work. I’ve tested my setup so that if a hook does get caught on a rock, I can simply bend it or open it out. It’s far safer than pulling for a break and risking leaving gear in the water. That way, I protect both the fish and the environment while still fishing confidently in snaggy areas. Of course, every venue is different. There’s no single “perfect” setup in carp fishing — that’s what makes it such a challenge. But if you’re fishing over rough, snaggy, or rocky ground, I hope my experience and approach help you fine-tune your setup and give you the confidence to fish those tricky spots safely and effectively.
