C64 – Games of My Youth – URIDIUM
C64 – Games of My Youth – URIDIUM Ah, the games of my youth... A time when every pixel mattered, when the SID chip created unforgettable music, and reaching the end of a level felt like a real achievement. In this episode, we return to one of the greatest Commodore 64 classics — URIDIUM. Released in 1986 for the Commodore 64, Uridium was created by legendary British programmer Andrew Braybrook, one of the most respected names in the history of 8-bit game development. His technical skill can be seen throughout the game — from the incredibly smooth scrolling and fast enemy formations to the impressive use of the C64 hardware. You take control of a futuristic spacecraft and your mission is to destroy massive enemy battleships known as Dreadnoughts. Each level brings new challenges: enemy fighters, missiles, obstacles and intense battles before reaching the landing strip. The smooth horizontal scrolling, amazing music and sound effects showed what the Commodore 64 was capable of in the hands of a talented programmer. Uridium features 15 levels (Dreadnoughts), each one becoming more challenging and demanding. Like many classic games from that era, success required practice, memorizing attack patterns and chasing the ultimate reward — seeing your initials at the top of the high score table. In this video, we try to reach 17,000+ points, survive enemy attacks and return to a time when completing a video game truly felt like an achievement.
