70-Year-Old Australian Living Alone on a Boat in the Philippines | His Emotional Story
Today, I visited Tatay Chris, a 70-year-old Australian who has been living alone on a boat in the Philippines for almost two years. Chris once worked as a mechanic in Australia and has spent a lifetime building practical skills. After the passing of his beloved Filipina wife, he found himself living alone with very limited support. Despite everything he has been through, he remains kind, grateful, and optimistic. During our conversation, Chris shared that he wants to return to Australia, but his passport expired in 2024, and he isn't sure how to begin the process. I told him I would contact the Australian Embassy to ask what assistance might be available. For now, his biggest concern is finding a safe and comfortable place to stay. He has also experienced attempts by others to steal his belongings from his boat, making his situation even more difficult. My hope is that by sharing Chris' story, we can raise awareness and connect him with people or organizations that may be able to help.
