The Slave Who Became Sultana — Shajar al-Durr's True Story
Shajar al-Durr was a slave girl who rose to become the first and only female Sultana to rule Egypt in her own name. In 1250, as the Seventh Crusade led by King Louis IX of France threatened Cairo, she concealed her dying husband's death, secretly commanded the Egyptian forces, and orchestrated the decisive victory at the Battle of al-Mansurah. She personally negotiated the ransom of the captured French king for 400,000 livres tournois, ending the Crusader threat to Egypt for good. Crowned Sultana on 2 May 1250, her name was struck on coins and read in the Friday sermon, founding the Mamluk Sultanate that would rule Egypt for three centuries. This documentary tells her complete, verified true story in Urdu — from slave markets to the throne of Cairo, from war command to her tragic assassination in 1257. No fiction, only documented history. #ShajarAlDurr #IslamicHistory #MamlukSultanate #CrusadesHistory #UrduDocumentary
