Mastering the Bowls Mat: Advanced Tips & Strategy (Part 2)
Mastering the Bowls Mat: Advanced Tips & Strategy (Part 2) "Explore advanced strategies for indoor bowls focusing on mat placement and positioning. Learn how to adjust your stance, optimize your line, and outwit opponents with clever mat tactics. Watch now for game-changing tips!" Welcome to my Theory of Everything bowls channel. This is the second part of what is an intriguing subject – the mat and why it is so important. In the first part, I talked about where you can place the mat and why, what happens to your line when the mat is moved up and down and putting the mat where it suits your line. Here are some further ways you can make the mat work to your advantage 1. Change your position on the mat to make fine adjustments to the line of your bowl (or length) DEMONSTRATE- Start by standing in front middle of the mat (the front nearer to Jack is best). Width can be adjusted by 1 foot and length backwards by 1-2 feet but this is unusual. If your normal line is blocked, then a sideways adjustment can help. If the jack is displaced nearer to the edge of the rink you stand on the inner side of the mat to get a better angle DEMONSTRATE 2. Mat placement vis a vis method of how you aim your bowl IMPORTANT If your mat is on the T and you bowl short or long from that unchanged position, your line remains the same if your aim is at the bank. DEMONSTRATE place a jack at short and long arc points If you aim for the shoulder of the arc you will need to adjust accordingly (an advantage for the aiming point on the bank method). This is why you can fox your opponent by keeping the mat in the same position but changing the length of the jack – you have the same aiming point they may have to change. You might get a better feel of length by looking at the shoulder of the arc but you have to vary your aiming point much more frequently 3. Conclusion I hope I have persuaded you of the importance of the mat. Think, the next time you put it down and tread on it. Treat it carefully – once you have lost possession of it, it can be hard to get it back. It can be your friend, it can help you find your correct lines, it can help to confound your opponents.
