Bobby Brown - Bobby II (1998) - The Album We NEVER Got

Bobby Brown was destined for superstardom ever since the early days of Candy Girl. After deciding to leave New Edition in 1985 to pursue a solo career, it was his objective to reach the top of the music industry. The modest success with his debut album King of Stage set the foundation for his takeover with Don't Be Cruel. With Babyface, L.A Reid and Teddy Riley at the songwriting and production helm, his second project went on to sell over twelve million copies and solidified his status as the face of R&B and New Jack Swing for the next few years to come. However, with the new decade came new solo acts and groups such as Boyz II Men, R.Kelly, Brian Mcknight, Usher and many more who would all compete for the top spots on the Billboard charts. Bobby's second album would prove to be a decent follow-up, selling double-platinum and satisfying music critics. Years later in 1996, Bobby would reunite with New Edition for their sixth studio album, Home Again, which would also be a commercial and critical success. Unfortunately their reunion was brief and shortly thereafter Bobby would return to his solo career. Beginning his next project that was originally titled Bobby II and was to include the likes of R.Kelly, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and Diddy to write and produce. This video dives into what could've been a much more successful album than 1997's Forever album. I also detail the reasons why the Forever album wasn't successful and what I think Bobby II needed to sustain Bobby's status as one of the faces of R&B in the late 90's.
