I Designed a Greenhouse Home that Generates Everything it Needs

In this video, I explore the design of the Passive Greenhouse Home, a true architectural hybrid that generates 100% of its own energy, harvests rainwater, and grows enough food to sustain a family. We will tour this 3,000-square-foot contemporary home that seamlessly integrates a 2,000-square-foot multi-level greenhouse into its facade. I will show you how the design utilizes a natural wood rainscreen paired with a striking glass envelope, featuring integrated solar panels that block harsh sunlight, reduce solar heat gain, and power the entire property. We will explore the ground floor featuring a warm, wood-finished kitchen, a massive walk-in pantry, and direct sliding glass door access to the indoor garden where you can grow dwarf fruit trees year-round. I will also explain the passive cooling strategies, like the automated ridge vent for stack-effect ventilation, and how the subterranean rainwater filtration and closed-loop sanitary systems create a fully regenerative, off-grid ecosystem.
