Can We Escape the Gales Before It's Too Late?

This Week aboard Bebop, our Hans Christian 48T Project Boat, we are sailing South on the Chesapeake Bay! But there is a gale coming. Will we be able to make it into the protection of Norfolk before the gale reaches us? We begin this week departing from Chestertown and the Sultana Downrigging Festival, chasing tall ships down the river. The sail (motor) is uneventful, except the crab pots. Without snagging a single one, we reach our first stop in Annapolis, Maryland. We spend some time in Annapolis, making our final preparations for sailing south. We even make some dyneema soft shackles to aid hoisting our dinghy! With the preparations complete enough, we begin our trek south to our next stop, the Solomons! It is a good sail south, and we set all 3 of our sails. We spend the night in the Solomons, Maryland, and leave the next morning with a South wind and rain as we head to our next stop in Deltaville, Virginia. The rain clears and a light fog rolls in. We make it into Deltaville just in time for some thunderstorms to roll in. We depart from Deltaville the next morning bound for Norfolk. The forecasts say that a gale is blowing in the next day, with today being the last good day for sailing on the Bay for a while. Little did we know what we would find as we left our protected anchorage. Will we be able to make it into the safety of Norfolk?
