BRAZIL DONATES N$1.9 MILLION TO BOOST FOOD SECURITY - nbc
Brazil donated N$1.9 million to the Namibian Chapter of the World Food Programme (WFP) to strengthen food systems in the country. The programme supports communities across Namibia in building stronger, more resilient and sustainable food systems. Speaking at the handover, Brazil’s Ambassador to Namibia, Pedro de Castro da Cunha e Menezes, said this contribution is part of Brazil’s commitment to helping other countries achieve food security and sustainable agriculture. He also stressed the importance of food security as a foundation for development and highlighted the negative impacts of hunger on society. Director-General of the National Planning Commission, Dr. Kaire Mbuende, noted that this support directly contributes to Namibia’s development objectives as outlined in Vision 2030 and the Sixth National Development Plan, particularly in the areas of food and nutrition security, strengthening rural livelihoods, promoting agricultural productivity, and building resilience against social, economic and climate-related challenges.
