Donald Sutherland: el pacifista detrás del actor

Donald Sutherland, one of the most prolific and chameleonic actors of our era, has died. But we don't just want to remember the actor, but the person. Because behind that magnificent professional was a committed human being, who used his public visibility to spread pacifist messages, especially during the Vietnam War. "I wanted to be part of a revolution that would change cinema and its influence on society," Sutherland said in an interview. That's why, at that time, he worked on the film "Johnny Got His Gun," a timeless symbol of anti-militarism and a clear plea for pacifism. Also during those years, he founded "Free Theatre Associates" with actress Jane Fonda. Both were banned by the army for their political activism, which led them to organize a pacifist tour near military bases in Southeast Asia in 1973 to counter Bob Hope's pro-war tour, in solidarity with a movement of American soldiers opposed to the war. From that tour, we extract the following speech, which is the image we want to keep in our memory of the great Donald Sutherland.
