Protesters from various community groups, including students, remained on Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, on Friday evening (June 12, 2026). As reported by Tribunnews, police and Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel were still standing guard, forming a barricade to prevent the protesters from continuing their journey to the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout. Monitoring at the scene showed the demonstration proceeding peacefully. The protesters, who were held back in front of UOB Plaza, were seen guarding each other while singing national songs. The protesters reportedly threatened not to disperse until the government acknowledged its mistakes. The protesters, representing various community groups, voiced their aspirations and protested several government policies deemed unfavourable to the people. The protesters made five demands: an end to the wasteful spending of the state budget (APBN), a reduction in the prices of basic necessities and fuel, a halt to the government's "MBG" (Money Building) program and the development of the "Red and White Village Cooperative," an end to militarism in the civilian sphere, and a call for President Prabowo Subianto to stop denying and admitting the government's mistakes. The demonstration was scheduled to be held at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout in Central Jakarta. However, police imposed a ban, arguing that the HI Roundabout area is the heart of the capital, potentially crippling public activity. As a result, officers imposed a blockade on Jalan MH Thamrin, one kilometer before the HI Roundabout. There was pushing and shoving and objects were thrown at the police officers on duty. The situation in front of the Thamrin Nine Building escalated amid the police blockade on Friday afternoon (June 12, 2026). According to Tribunnews, demonstrators attempted to force their way into the HI Roundabout area and forcefully break the police blockade to express their demands. Several water bottles were also thrown by the crowd, who had been trapped in the area since noon. Several online motorcycle taxi drivers joined forces to help students who were blocked by a military and police barricade. According to Tribunnews, TNI and police officers blocked hundreds of students who were attempting to demonstrate at the HI Roundabout.
