Pedestrian Killed On 91 Freeway In Riverside

At approximately 1:33 a.m. on May 31, 2026, California Highway Patrol officers and Riverside firefighters responded to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on the eastbound 91 Freeway west of Van Buren Boulevard. Responding crews located a pedestrian who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators also found the involved vehicle approximately 50 feet off the freeway inside a flood control channel. According to preliminary information, the driver struck the pedestrian and then swerved off the roadway, coming to rest in the channel below. The driver was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. Authorities have not determined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision. CHP issued a full closure of the eastbound 91 Freeway between Magnolia Avenue and Tyler Street while investigators processed the scene and crews worked to recover the vehicle.
