Jaguar XK8 Manual Swap: Testing the CAN-Bus Manual Control Module | MT48. XKR X100 modurol

In video 48 of our Jaguar X100 conversion series, we run critical diagnostic benchmarking tests on our prototype Manual Control Module (MCM) before dropping the automatic transmission. This crucial CAN-bus emulator, developed by Glenn Nelson in Texas, intercepts and replicates the factory automatic transmission signals, convincing the factory ECU and instrument cluster that the original transmission is still operating normally to prevent limp mode. While the MCM logic is proven on later 2003+ 4.2L CAN-bus streams, this 1996 4.0L chassis uses early-generation multiplex protocols. We put the module through three distinct electrical and data-link benchmarks: TCM Fault Isolation: Simulating total Transmission Control Module power loss via fuse extraction to benchmark ECU error logging (P0560, P1643) and fault clearance. Static MCM CAN-Bus Emulation: Testing the module's baseline network presence with the ignition on, mapping the park brake 12V logic, J-Gate matrix signals, and resolving the 4.2V voltage drop on the handbrake dash binnacle circuit. Live Engine Calibration: Verifying cranking parameters, validating the 1100 RPM cold-start idle decay strategy, and confirming that engine rev limits are completely unrestricted past 3,000 RPM. We also discuss a collaborative engineering effort with Stuart Connell, who is simultaneously converting a supercharged X308 XJR using a tailored variant of this module. By pooling our technical resources, we are refining a highly accessible, factory-ECU alternative to expensive aftermarket engine management setups, making the AJ-V8 manual swap economic and achievable for hobby enthusiasts.
