This U.S. Ambassador Is Treated Like A Rockstar In Denmark (HBO)

Rufus Gifford is the U.S. Ambassador to Denmark. He’s also a reality TV star, the author of a cookbook and a best-selling biography, and he’s treated like a rock star by the Danes. His popularity soared after his show I Am the Ambassador became a ratings hit, and Gifford is using that fame to connect with young people, he told VICE News correspondent Hind Hassan. “I get stopped on the street wherever I go, and people will point at me and say, ‘What the hell are you doing? What the hell’s going on in the United States politically?'” Gifford told a packed town hall in Aarhus, Denmark. “I actually want to bring a mirror to the Europeans who ask me this question, because I think the same things that are happening in the United States are happening right here as well.” This segment originally aired Nov. 2, 2016, on VICE News Tonight on HBO.
