Suchibrata Sen: Professor Sen born in 1946 in a remote village of Birbhum. He graduated from Maulana Azad College with History honours, Kolkata in 1965 and completed his post- graduation in 1967 from University of Calcutta. He started his teaching career as a Lecturer in History at Shyamsundar College in 1969 and later joined Kandhi Raj College in 1971. In 1986 he joined in the History Department of Visva- Bharati where he served until his retirement in 2009 as Professor of History. In 1972 he started his research under the supervision of Professor Tarasankar Banerjee and received his Ph.D. in the year 1980 from Visva-Bharati. Professor Sen was a member of ICHR (2002-05), member of State Level Committee for the Celebration of 150 Years of the India’s First War of Independence, Govt. of W.B. (2007-09) and member of Executive Committee of Institute of Historical Studies, Kolkata (2011-14). Professor Sen is well known for his significant works on the Santal’s way of life. Some of his major works include The Santals of Jungle Mahals: An Agrarian History 1793 1861 (1984), The Santals: Crises of Identity and Integration (1997), Purbha Bharater Aadivasi: Aastitewar Shankat (2002), The Santals of Jungle-Mahals: Through the Ages (2013), Birbhum, Malaria and Harry Timbres: A Social History of Health and Medicine in a Colonial Bengal District (2015), Sattawar Sandhane: Bongo Sanskriti, Adibasijapon O Onanya (2022), Mohondas Karamchand Gandhi: Parajito Mahatma (2022). Interviewer: Dr. Partha Sankha Mazumdar Dr. Mazumdar is an Associate Professor, Department of History, Suri Vidyasagar College, Birbhum. He was born in 1969. He completed his Post-Graduation from Visva-Bharati in 1993 and in 2006 he obtained Ph.D. from this university. His special area of interest is socio-political-economic and cultural history of Birbhum. Dr. Mazumdar served as Principal Investigator of a Minor Research Project under UGC (2003-05) and Joint Project Co-ordinator of a project under West Bengal Heritage Commission (December 2010- December 2011). He also served as Research Assistant of State Level Committee to Celebrate 150th year of the First War of Independence under the Chairmanship of the Governor of West Bengal (June 2008- March 2009). Dr. Mazumdar has presented research papers in various seminars and workshops of national and international level and has contributed articles in various journals and books. He has also written and edited some very important books in the context of history of Birbhum in Bengali language-- Borobaganer Mela: Itihaser Aloi (Fair of Barobagan: From the Pages of History, 2000), Shibratan Mitra Rachana-Sangraha (A Collection of Writings of Shibratan Mitra, 2009), Gourihar Mitra’s Birbhumer Itihas (History of Birbhum Written by Gourihar Mitra, 2014), Mahimaniranjan Chakraborty’s Birbhum Rajbansha (Royal Families of Birbhum, 2014), Kishorilal Sarkar’s Hetampur Kahini (Account of Hetampur, 2015), Sibratan Mitra-Gourihar Mitra (Biography of Sibratan and Gourihar Mitra, 2019), Hetampur Krishnachandra College (2014), Shibratan Mitra’s Rammohan (Collection of Writings of Sibratan Mitra on Rammohan, 2023), Shibratan Mitra’s Boisnava Sahityachatcha (Collection of Writings of Sibratan Mitra on Vaisnava Literature, 2025). Rabindranath and His Many Abodes, published By West Bengal Heritage Commission, is also a result of his research. He has written several text books for under-graduate course (History) of Burdwan, Kazi Nazrul, Kalyani, Sidhu-Kanu-Birsa, Vidyasagar and Kolkata University. He was awarded ‘Ranjan Gupta Smarok Samman 2017’ by Paschimbanga Ganatantrik Lekhok Shilpi Sangha of Birbhum District and ‘Pragati Annonya Samman 2022’ by Pragati Patrika, Birbhum. ............................
