Richard Yongjae O'Neill (27), the protagonist of [Yongjae O'Neill's Song of Love for New York], which aired last May. Yongjae's mother, Lee Bok-soon (52), was adopted to the United States as a war orphan when she was five years old. Yongjae held his first solo recital in Korea, his mother's homeland. Korean fans, captivated by Yongjae's music after meeting him through the documentary Human Theater and drawn to the human charm of his family, filled the concert hall. Yongjae says that he now truly feels Korea is another homeland, more than just his mother's country. ■ My Hometown Colin O'Neill, Yongjae's mother, was adopted to the United States in 1958 when she was four years old. The only Korean word she remembers is her Korean name, Lee Bok-soon. Although she cannot speak a single word of Korean and has no memories of Korea, Ms. Bok-soon identifies herself as Korean, driven by a vague tremor of blood ties. After successfully concluding the concert, Yong-jae headed to Yongpyong to participate in the Daegwallyeong International Music Festival.
