Growing up between Cultures | Children's Day Special
For this special Children’s Day episode of So Here We Are, we handed the microphone to seven young guests that come from different background, families, speak different languages, and see the world through very different experiences. While adults often divide answers into “Chinese” and “Western,” the children didn’t seem interested in doing that at all. They simply answered as themselves. Some of their answers were surprisingly different. Others were surprisingly similar. And somewhere between questions about home, identity, belonging, and dreams, they reminded me that many of the things adults argue about become much simpler when we stop trying so hard to fit them into categories. A conversation about growing up, belonging, culture, and the world — through the eyes of children. 00:00 Introduction 00:36 Meet the young guests 01:24 Growing Up with Different Languages 02:23 What Do You Like to Play? 02:40 Are You a Foreigner? 03:06 What Does “Foreigner” Mean? 03:51 What Does Home Mean? 04:41 Where Do We Belong? 05:45 Growing Up in Different Cultures 06:01 One Word for Foreign Visitors 06:19 Hobbies and Interests 09:03 Dreams for the Future 09:58 Must-Visit Places in Shanghai 10:20 Must-Try Chinese Food 11:42 The Color of Shanghai 12:23 Other Cities We Love 13:00 Countries You’ve Visited 13:12 Favorite Chinese Traditions 13:55 A Must-Visit City in China 14:33 What Makes China Special? 15:04 The Hardest Part of Being a Kid 15:32 What Adults Can Learn from Kids 16:21 Thoughts on Growing Up 16:41 A Perfect Day in Your Mind 17:24 A Message to Children Around the World 18:27 Closing Thoughts #ChildrensDay #GrowingUpBetweenCultures #KidsVoices #ChinaStories #SoHereWeAre Hope you will like it.
