The first capital of Brazil was Salvador, between 1549 and 1763, and then Rio de Janeiro, from 1763 to 1960. Soon after, the city of Curitiba was named the capital of Brazil for only three days, from March 24th to 27th, 1969. And now let's understand why Brasília is the capital of Brazil. Then-President Juscelino Kubitschek decided, for several reasons, to move the Brazilian capital to the Midwest. But the idea of moving the capital to the center of the country was first documented in 1891. Juscelino Kubitschek had one of the most ambitious slogans of all time. 50 in 5 With this motto, the president wanted to make Brazil grow 50 years in just 5. And to do this, he put together gigantic projects, such as the construction of roads, the assembly of car and appliance factories, in addition to powerful investments in electricity. Lúcio Costa was responsible for designing the map of Brasília, called the Pilot Plan; the city would be shaped like an airplane. And it would house the country's legislative power. To build buildings as ambitious as his plans, Juscelino Kubitschek recruited Oscar Niemeyer, a great genius of architecture, famous worldwide. Niemeyer has works in the United States, Spain, and France, as well as several other special places where his peculiar buildings attract attention. On April 21, 1960, Brasília was ready, an unparalleled city, totally planned and ready to be one of the most strategic locations in the world. Unfortunately, most Brazilians don't even know why Brasília is where it is and why it is such a strategic point. For the selection of the location, several surveys were conducted with experts from the army, air force, and navy. So that they could find a point that was safe in every possible way. Thanks to this strategy, Brasília was placed in the center of Brazilian territory so that, from a military point of view, Brasília is one of the safest cities in the world. Within the ambitious plan for the construction of Brasília was also the objective of bringing development to the central-west of Goiás. Several roads facilitating transportation were built at that time so that the central-west could distribute its enormous agricultural production more easily throughout Brazil. And to make this city, planned to be the most strategic federal district in the world, even more fascinating, Oscar Niemeyer developed some of his most incredible works. HONESTINO GUIMARÃES NATIONAL MUSEUM With a surrealist tone, this work is a hemisphere with a huge access ramp, a totally minimalist design, and at night, reflected in the water, the museum becomes almost a perfect sphere. DIGITAL TV TOWER Equivalent to a 62-story building, this enormous tower features large glass-covered halls that serve as exhibition spaces. ITAMARATY PALACE Considered Niemeyer's masterpiece, this project was so ambitious that its completion was delayed somewhat beyond the scheduled date. JK MEMORIAL Built to honor the president, The site also houses the chamber where the mortal remains of Juscelino Kubitschek rest. It also contains items, photos, and mementos of the former president. ALVORADA PALACE This is the official residence of the president of the republic. Built in modern tones and dividing a lake in half, this work also evokes the old farmhouses with its ingenious water reflection, creating the illusory sensation of infinite space. NATIONAL THEATRE This is the modern pyramid designed by Niemeyer, one of the largest constructions he has ever made. METROPOLITAN CATHEDRAL One of the most striking and dazzling works in Brasília. This was Brasília's first monument, created to symbolize Jesus' crown of thorns. SUPREME FEDERAL COURT With modern and innovative architecture, a rectangular building with various details and glass structures, creating true visual illusions. PLANALTO PALACE This is the official office of the president and features beautiful, complex architecture with a wide access ramp. NATIONAL CONGRESS This is perhaps the most famous national work in the world, second only to Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. It consists of two towers and two domes, one concave and the other convex. And thus, it is the center of the three branches of government in Brazil. With the reflecting pool, which has become a trademark of these works, the towers form a unique and fascinating design. Brasilia is more than 1000 kilometers from any port or national border. 🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹 Programs and websites used in our production: Photoshop After Effects Premiere Google Earth Canvas Vecteezy Pexels Pixabay 🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹 This video is original EconoSimples content and all rights are reserved. #geography #economics #SimpleEconomy
