Shugoro Yamamoto (June 22, 1903 – February 14, 1967) was a Japanese novelist. Real name: Satomu Shimizu. Born in Yamanashi Prefecture. After graduating from Nishimae Elementary School in Yokohama City, he lived and worked as an apprentice at the Yamamoto Shugoro Shoten in Kobikicho, Tokyo. In 1926, "Near Sumadera Temple" was published in "Bungei Shunju," becoming his breakthrough work in the literary world. Her novel Nihon Fudoki (Records of Japanese Women's Way) was nominated for the Naoki Prize in the first half of 1943, but she politely declined the award. Afterward, she became known for her popular novels, including historical fiction and period novels that depicted the hardships of samurai and the sorrows of ordinary people from the perspective of commoners, such as Yanagibashi Monogatari (The Tale of Yanagibashi), Neboke Shocho (The Sleepy Police Chief), Eiga Monogatari (The Tale of Glory), Momi no Ki wa Nokotta (The Fir Tree Remained), Akahige Shinryotan (The Tale of Red Beard's Clinic), Goban no Tsubaki (The Five-Petaled Camellia), Aobeka Monogatari (The Tale of Aobeka), Kokū Henreki (Wanderings in the Void), Kisetsu no Nai Machi (The Town Without Seasons), Sabu (The Cold), and Nagai Saka (The Long Hill). She wrote many masterpieces in her later years and was highly acclaimed. This is Yoshimi Abe, a voice trainer and narrator.
