One of the first regulators to survive to this day is the Louis XV grandfather clock with an equation of time function, created by Julien Le Roy in 1736. In the 19th century, numerous grandfather clocks—clocks with high precision—were created. The most sophisticated of these featured a Gragam escapement and mercury-vapor pendulums to compensate for temperature fluctuations. But how did pocket and later wrist regulators come to be? The idea of ​​displaying time with two central hands originated in the late 17th century. After Christiaan Huygens invented the balance spring, small clocks became many times more accurate, and a minute hand appeared on watch dials for the first time. This innovation was not to everyone's liking, and watchmakers were forced to seek an alternative. Thus, the ancient idea of ​​a rotating dial was revived. Today, virtually every reputable Swiss watch company has at least one model of a regulator clock in its range.
