Ross Daly playing a new Nak Tarhu made by Mazdak Fereydooni
Ross Daly demonstrating a new Nak Tarhu made by Mazdak Fereydooni at the Musical Workshop Labyrinth on Crete. This instrument was originally developed by Australian Luthier Peter Biffin in collaboration with Ross Daly. It uses the technique of pressing the strings with the back of the fingernails like the Cretan Lyra or the Indian Sarangi and has strings made of multiple nylon filaments (somewhat like the horsehair strings of the Morin Khuur, the Igil or the Egyptian Rababa) which give it a very characteristic sound.
