📝 Description Box 00:00 The Adventure Begins ✈️ 00:19 Day 1: Snæfellsnes Peninsula & Kirkjufell 01:40 Day 2: The Golden Circle 🌋 04:24 Day 3: South Coast, Black Sand Beach & Yoda Cave 05:55 Day 4: Canyons, Diamond beach & Glacier 🧊 08:30 Day 5: Mirror beach & Changing Our Plans! 09:45 Days 6-7: Exploring Reykjavík, Lava cave, Sky lagoon 🇮🇸 12:05 Outro: Back to Athens Our afternoon flight from Athens via Copenhagen got us to Keflavík International Airport just a few minutes before midnight. After catching some much-needed sleep, we headed out the next morning towards the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. We drove through the Hvalfjarðargöng underwater tunnel, got our first glimpse of the famous Icelandic horses, and visited the black church of Búðakirkja, the Gatklettur natural stone arch, and the iconic Mount Kirkjufell. Along the way, we crossed the striking Kolgrafarfjörður bridge, which looks just like a giant sword, before spending the night back in Reykjavík. The next day was all about the Golden Circle: Thingvellir National Park, the stunning blue waters of Brúarfoss waterfall, the active geysers at Strokkur, the mighty Gullfoss, the Skálholt Cathedral, and the Kerið crater lake. On day three, we journeyed further east. Our first stop was Seljalandsfoss, followed naturally by the magnificent Skógafoss. We then explored the Dyrhólaey Viewpoint, the famous Reynisfjara black sand beach, the Gígjagjá cave (also known as the Yoda Cave), and finished the day with a stroll around the charming village of Vík. As the sun rose on our 4th day, we checked the weather and set off even further east. The local Hamrafoss waterfall practically forced us to pull over for a quick stop. After driving past a vast lava field, we reached the magical Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon, eventually making our way to the breathtaking Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. The morning of day five found us driving along a spectacular coastal road, with Icelandic horses keeping us company for a while. We arrived at Stokksnes—a giant mirror-like landscape that looks completely out of this world! There, we took a boat ride on a Viking ship and visited the nearby Viking village, which turned out to be a movie prop set rather than a real historic site. From that point on, we had to turn back west, as the road ahead was covered in heavy snow and ice, meaning it made no sense to try and complete the full Ring Road. We spent our final two days exploring the capital, Reykjavík, and its amazing surroundings. We went underground to explore The Lava Tunnel, relaxed in the geothermal waters of the Sky Lagoon, and walked around the city to see the impressive Hallgrímskirkja church, with the statue of Leif Erikson overlooking the colorful pedestrian street below. We also visited the stunning Harpa Concert Hall, the Sun Voyager sculpture, and of course, the city's peaceful central lake. It’s time to head home, but we definitely have unfinished business with Iceland. I hope that one day we will return to explore the rest of the island, and perhaps even the wild Highlands. Until then... we are already planning our next adventure! ✈️🌋 #iceland #roadtrip #travelvlog #icelandtravel #reykjavik #ringroad #SkyLagoon #LavaTunnel #yodacave #mirrorbeach
