Sibelius: Quartet in D minor for Strings, Op. 56, “Voces intimae”

Jean Sibelius is a Finnish cultural hero and visionary composer who helped forge a national musical voice inspired by myth and nature. He is best known for his symphonic works, but his daring late string quartet, "Voces intimae," is a striking standout in his chamber music repertoire. Sibelius wrote to his wife of the piece: “It turned out as something wonderful. The kind of thing that brings a smile to your lips at the hour of death. I will say no more.” Recorded live in the Daniel and Joanna S. Rose Studio on June 10, 2021. Video directed by Tristan Cook. ARTISTS: Escher String Quartet: Adam Barnett-Hart, violin; Brendan Speltz, violin; Pierre Lapointe, viola; Brook Speltz, cello.
