Riot Kayak Pedal Prop Drive Repair

This video is on repairing a pedal drive system that I bought with my Riot Mako Kayak, I had gotten into some weeds that wrapped around the drives propeller and eventually created slipping or spinning of the drive in the upper pinion gear which is made of plastic. The solution I came up with was adding weld material on the corners of the aluminum drive , grinding the corners to points, heating it up and melting it into the center of the gear. I show disassembly of the upper gear housing, which you will see had some loose bolting in it, you will also see a picture slide show of the repair on the drive to make it functional again. I have used it for three years now, an have had no more issues. There is also a picture of the lower prop end of the drive, and it is the same design as the upper drive, I have not had any issues with the lower section so I did not change it, but I did also find some loose bolting there so you may want to inspect yours. Stay out of the weed beds with this drive unit. Good luck!
