My College Life Was Dull... (A Short Story)

University is one of those chapters in life that changes you — but looking back, there are five things I really regret not doing in university. I’m sharing this video for anyone who’s about to start university, still in school, or already done and reflecting like me. This isn’t a motivational speech — it’s real talk from my own experience at Bindura University of Science Education. The lessons I learned, the mistakes I made, and the moments I can’t rewind — maybe they’ll save you some time, energy, and missed opportunities. Here’s what I wish I had done differently 👇 1️⃣ Networking & Socializing More I spent most of my time focused on books and classes. Don’t get me wrong — education is key. But I now realize that your network is your net worth. I wish I had connected more with people outside my usual circle — people who could inspire, challenge, and open new doors. 2️⃣ Building My LinkedIn Profile Early If I had started growing my professional profile in my first year, imagine how far it would’ve gone by now. LinkedIn isn’t just for graduates — it’s a goldmine for students who want to build a name and connect with opportunities even before finishing school. 3️⃣ Participating in Sports Again I used to play basketball all through high school. But when I got to university… I just stopped. I still don’t know why. I miss the energy, teamwork, and discipline that came with the game. If you have a passion — don’t drop it when you get to campus. It balances you. 4️⃣ Starting a Small Business 2021 could’ve been my year to start something small — anything. University is the perfect time to experiment with ideas. Even a side hustle teaches you lessons that no classroom ever will. I wish I had taken the risk earlier. 5️⃣ My Proud Moments But not everything is a regret. I’m proud that I excelled academically — I’m graduating with a First-Class Honours in Network Engineering. I’m proud that I kept my faith through it all, stayed true to my Christian values, and never lost sight of who I am. So yeah, university isn’t just about lectures and exams — it’s about growth, purpose, and preparation for real life.
