Eugéne Ysaÿe - Sean Chen: Sonata No. 3 "Ballade" for two pianos, performed by 88SQUARED Piano Duo

Eugéne Ysaÿe: Sonata for Solo Violin, Op. 27 No. 3, "Ballade" Arrangement for two pianos by Sean Chen Commissioned and Performed by 88SQUARED Piano Duo - Karen Hsiao Savage and Jeffrey Savage (http://www.88squared.com/) Karen and Jeff approached me in 2024 with a commission to create a virtuosic arrangement for their piano duo, 88Squared. I had already been mulling over a solo piano arrangement of Ysaÿe, so I took the opportunity to flesh out those ideas and I'm pretty happy with what I came up with! Many thanks to Karen and Jeff for not only learning the work, but going through the entire recording process with me. You will hear references to other piano transcriptions, including inspirations from Busoni, Godowsky, and Liszt. I've snuck quite a few musical references in (Beethoven, among others), so if your ears pick up anything, chances are it was intentional.
