17. Östlichstes Gartenbahntreffen in Deutschland 2026, Teil 1 von 2
The "17th Easternmost Garden Railway Meeting in Germany 2026" was once again a magnet for garden railway enthusiasts from near and far. Unfortunately, due to capacity limitations, not all registration requests could be accepted. It was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic children attending the meeting. One can certainly hope that the spark for the model railway hobby will one day ignite. Garden railways modeled after Saxon narrow-gauge railways are becoming increasingly popular. The model railway industry has also been increasingly focusing on this theme for several years. For example, locomotive driver Nicole with her Faur L45H 199 018 of the Zittau narrow-gauge railway was one of the new releases for 2025 and was our guest. But there were also many scratch-built models to admire. For example, who knew that the "Hagans" locomotive was the first locomotive to run on a Saxon narrow-gauge railway, even before the famous IK locomotive, which we also see here with its period-correct train? Wolfgang Thum is the builder of the "Hagans" locomotive and thankfully brought it along to the garden railway meeting. Models of the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways (HSB) are, of course, a must on our garden railway. Lammert Boerman has barely released a superb model of the Mallet locomotive 99 5906-5 when it can be admired here with a three-car train featuring aluminum cars. The Mallet has been weathered (not everyone does that) and looks so authentic. Powerful plumes of steam and a very pleasing sound make you dream of seeing this train running on the real HSB in the Selke Valley someday. The Kiss locomotive 99 6001 with its heritage carriages was another highlight. Very nice steam output and excellent sound by Gerd Mittag. You'd think the real thing was just around the corner. The scale model "Harz Camel" with its hand-built carriages by Johannes Höltge also attracted a lot of attention. One could list even more, but enough of the gushing, just settle into your armchair and enjoy Part 1 about the 17th ÖGBTD 2026. 17th Easternmost Garden Railway Meeting in Germany 2026, Part 1 The “17th Easternmost Garden Railway Gathering in Germany 2026” was once again a magnet for garden railway enthusiasts from near and far. Unfortunately, due to capacity constraints, it wasn't possible to approve all requests from prospective participants. It was lovely to see so many pairs of enthusiastic children's eyes. One might well hope that the spark for the model railway hobby will catch on one day. Garden railway enthusiasts modeling Saxon narrow-gauge railways are rapidly gaining in popularity. For several years now, the model railway industry has also been increasingly focusing on this subject. For instance, train driver Nicole featuring her Faur L45H 199 018 from the Zittau Narrow-Gauge Railway was one of the new releases for 2025 and visited us. But self-built models could also be admired. For example, who knew that the "Hagans" locomotive was the first to run on a Saxon narrow-gauge railway—even before the famous Class IK locomotive, which we also see here with its period-authentic train? Wolfgang Thum is the builder of the "Hagans" locomotive and has kindly brought it along to the garden railway gathering. Naturally, models of the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways (HSB) simply have to be included on our garden railway. No sooner has Lammert Boerman released a superb model of the Mallet locomotive 99 5906-5 than it can be admired here hauling a three-car train of aluminum ingots. The Mallet has been weathered (something not everyone does), and it looks absolutely authentic. Billowing clouds of steam and a magnificent sound make one dream of seeing this train run on the extensive HSB network in the Selke Valley one day. The Kiss locomotive 99 6001, with its heritage coaches, was another highlight. Very impressive steam exhaust and outstanding sound by Gerd Mittag. It looks like the real-life prototype is just coming around the corner. The true-to-scale "Harzkamel" locomotive, paired with scratch-built wagons by Johannes Höltge, also drew many admiring glances. One could go on listing more, but enough gushing—simply settle into your armchair and enjoy Part 1 about the 17th ÖGBTD 2026.
