13News Now... Then: Kids get vaccinated before being allowed to attend school

Original Air Date: August 16, 1983. Before being allowed to attend school, kids in Portsmouth line up to make sure they are up to date with their immunizations. The youngsters weren't too fond of the experience, but parents took it in stride. "I think it helps, because there are a lot of diseases are out today, and I think it would help prevent most diseases," one parent told reporter Tome Friedman. Childhood immunization has dropped during the COVID-19 pandemic. April 25 through April 29 is National Infant Immunization Week, which was established to remind parents of children who are 2 and under how important it is to vaccinate for preventable illnesses and diseases.
